Sure - works fine (in fact was developed) on RedHat or SuSe Linux.
If you were talking about Microsoft platform: I won't suggest installing
the complete Cygwin package on the firewall due to security
considerations. So either export your settings (tar&scp) to a real
workstation or server - or try to translate the script into the
Microsoft world.
Main problem with translating will be the automatic file name handling
that is so easy with Unix shell scripting. Perl might be a choice - but
then you'll need the appropriate libs installed, which opens up another
can of worms.
Please don't ask - I won't program it's Windows-based counterpart as
- I don't have a Windows-based firewall (for testing)
- don't want to have to work around all the MS restrictions
- personally don't think that Microsoft is a good choice when
it comes to security or basic network services.
