Hello!

We have a customer who is about to upgrade an old FW-1 to
VPN-1/FW-1 NG FP3. They have some money left in their budget
for this year so they are thinking about making the new
firewall a cluster. Both for reasons of high availability and
load sharing.

When I checked clustered solutions earlier, there were only
two options as I recall:
1. You bought a cluster license, that was cheaper than a full license.
2. You optionally bought a high availability module.

I don't understand how the licensing works now. I need some fast
answers because the customer needs time to decide and purchase before
the holidays. I'm hoping someone on the list has recent knowledge of
licensing issues.

Exactly which components (I would really appreciate the CheckPoint
part numbers if possible) are needed for:
A: A cluster with only failover functionality?
B: A cluster with both failover and load sharing functionality?

The base firewall they have bought so far is the following:
LS-CPFW-EPC-U Uppgrade to NG
CPVP-VEE-U-NG VPN-1/FW-1
CPMP-SPL-MEDIA-1-NG Linux SecurePlatform
CPMP-PPK-1-NG Performance Pack

Will they have to buy another (full?) VPN-1/FW-1 license, plus
a SmartCenter license (and what is the difference between
SmartCenter and SmartCenter Pro) plus a ClusterXL license?

Thanks!
