It really depends on the logging load. The disk in the 330 isn't the
fastest in the world (though not exactly pokey either). IMHO, the
biggest questions you need to ask yourself when selecting a management
station platform are:
1. How much log data do I need to store?
2. How much log traffic will I be getting?
3. What's my backup strategy for the Management Console?
IMHO - 3 is the most important, followed by 2 and then 1.
One of my larger customers has about 50 IP530s already deployed (with
30 more coming online this month), all running in VRRP pairs (all FP2).
He manages that using two Sun boxes configured with Management HA, and
a log server (no logs go to the managers), also running on a Sun. Not
sure which boxes he's using (they're 1U rackmount Suns that look pretty
recent). He's in the process of migrating to Provider-1, but that's a
whole different story.. I believe the Suns get backed up by Legato
agents...
