We are experiencing Microsoft Outlook connectivity issues connecting to an Exchange 5.5 server when the SecureClient client (NG fp2) resides behind a Linksys (BEFSR41) router. All other applications that are accessed seem to function with no issues through the VPN tunnel. We are using hide behind NATing, via the Linksys, using private IP addressing with the WAN interface using a DSL line via a PPPoE connection. This address is distinct from any of our DMZ and internal private addresses.
When attempting to connect to the Exchange server via MS Outlook 2002, we receive the following message box: Outlook is retrieving data from the Microsoft Exchange Server <ServerName>. You can cancel the request or minimize this message to the Windows taskbar until Outlook closes the message automatically. After the retrieval of data has completed (which takes 60 to 90 seconds), you can view the content within the mailbox. However, if you attempt any action, such as forward the message, Outlook will again perform the retrieval process above before sending the message. We are experiencing these same delays with earlier versions of Outlook but do not receive the message above. The Outlook 97/98/2000 clients appear to be in a hung state but is experiencing the same issue as the Outlook 2002 client. After approximately 60 - 90 seconds the Outlook 97/98/2000 client functions normally until you attempt to perform an action, such as forward a message. When you attempt to forward a message, after approximately 60 seconds the following message is displayed; Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. When the SecureClient is directly connected to the DSL circuit, not residing behind the Linksys router, all Outlook clients function normally. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on a possible resolution to this issue. Thank You, Jeffrey Larson Senior LAN Technician Michigan Millers Mutual Ins.
