You're not correct here. If the kernel version is:
x.y.z
If y is an even number or zero, the kernel version is a "production" version.
If y is an odd number, the kernel version is a "development" version.
x or z do not play a role in whether or not a kernel is beta or not. For
example, all 2.2.x kernels are production, all 2.3.x kernels are development.
