Well, you have is what we refer to as a golden opportunity. Since you have
been tasked with doing this, use that as an opportunity to do some other
things to make your network more secure.
There is no way to explicitly (one by one) shut all of this stuff down since
a lot of it is configurable to use pretty much any port and new stuff is
coming out all the time. If you want proof of that, check out
http://www.xrgaming.com/ or http://www.stratics.com. Online gaming is HOT!!
and everyone who is anyone is coming out with one. Not only do you have
game companies putting up Internet gaming servers, but in the case of Ultima
Online, individuals can do it too. I know, I play on one of them myself.
So, the bottom line is that eliminating Internet gaming with a technical
solution is just not possible, only MBWA (Management By Walking Around) can
do that. The only way to do this with any chance of getting most of it is
to only allow in and out those things you know and block everything else.
Of course, if you allow port 80, the game can be configured to use port 80
and there is nothing you can do about it (except of course the ol' sharp rap
in the back of the head).
Turn the whole thing around on your management and make them let you do it
(it is really the only way). This is not an easy proposition and depending
on how your company uses the Internet, can take a lot of research and
analysis and management up and down the chain MUST support you. The end
result would be a much more secure network and not only will you put an end
to gaming but things like Napster too.

Subject: [FW1] Tribe and Quake games
I have been tasked by my management to end all gaming connectivity to the
internet. They explicitly pointed to Quake and Tribe. Does anyone have any
ideas on how to do that?
Thanks in advance,
Michael
