Subject: RE: [FW1] using GUI without connecting to management server

Hi,

If you log into the Policy Editor with the management server set to *local,
you can use anything for the username and password and you will have local
access.

If you want to look at your own files, do the following:
1) copy $FWDIR/conf/objects.c and rename to objects.fws
2) copy $FWDIR/conf/rulebases.fws and rename to rules.fws
3) place these in your GUI program directory (eg: c:\program
files\checkpoint\gui\program)
4) log in locally as described above.

You can also copy fwauth.NDB* to (a file that I forget the name of).fws to
copy over the user database.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Subject: [FW1] using GUI without connecting to management server

Hello all,

I remember seeing somewhere that you could play with the GUI without
connecting to any management server. The point is to allow people to play
around with the gui and a rulebase without affecting the actual firewall.
Useful for showing newbees the concepts.

I think the trick was to connect with some special user name, however I
can't recollect what the user name was!

Does anyone know?

Thanks,

:) Bjrnar
