This is a well known problem in FW-1 ... What's happening is that the FTP
session is opening up a client port (above 1024) to transfer the data which
is quite normal. However, if the port that it opens is a known service to
FW-1 then the transfer will fail.

There is a fix for this on www.phoneboy.com/fw1 in the services section,
along with some further information.

regards,

simon

Subject: [FW1] FTP Session no longer works through Firewall

Hello,

Is there anyone out there ?, oh pleeeeeese, someone help me if you can. I'll
buy the person who comes up with the solution a beer (I can't say fairer
than that can I ?)

The problem is as follows:

A user is using a FTP Shareware product called WS_FTP that basically is a
fancy FTP frontend user GUI. When they transfer a single large file through
the Firewall, no problems occur. However, when they transfer several Hundred
files at once, after a minute the firewall stops the connection. Rule 0
comes into play and terminates the session, the question is why ?

Within the FW log, The message in the info field is:

reason: tried to open tcp service port, port:MQ

Its not always MQ that comes up, sometime lotus or Vosaic-ctrl appears.

Thanks anyone
