It may be a load of something, but it is required. This is not the vendor
being greedy. Checkpoint requires that you purchase the software
subscriptions. You have to renew your license, and the subscription, every
year. At least, I have been told by Checkpoint personnel (not a reseller,
nor a distributor) that this is the case, even when you are purchasing
multiple firewalls. If this is not true, my direct Checkpoint
representatives have been misinformed, I have been substantially overcharged,
and I would therefore very much like to hear about it.
If I did not have such a heavy investment in Checkpoint, I would abandon it
because of the organization's subscription and support policies and
processes, and the procurement headaches that have spanned endless months.
Someone will come out with a more efficient and less costly process, and
product, soon enough. At that time, I will be very happy to wave goodbye to
Checkpoint.
