Mike,

We have tried quite a few proxies/caches (Novell BorderManager, MS Proxy2 &
Squid/FreeBSD).

Novell is a good option if you are a Novell shop. It is probably the most
configurable of any of the proxies we have used & works well with NDS. However
we have had quite a few teething problems & only now (version 3.5) it seems to
be working as advertised. It is also the most expensive of the lot. But it is
good if you want a fairly granular net policy.

MS Proxy is fine, not as configurable as Novell but easier to get working & much
cheaper.

Squid was free and works under most *nixes, we have it under FreeBSD &
performance is great. Again it is no where near as flexible as Novell, but you
are only up for the cost of the hardware.

Subject: [FW1] Web Proxy/Websense

Hi all

I would very much appreciate any thoughts on this one....

We would like to configure a Web Proxy along with Websense for outbound http
thus allowing only the Web Proxy outbound access to the web which is filtered
through Websense and no inbound access.

The problem here is that we do not have any specific experience of Web Proxy
software and would appreciate any thoughts on which is the best to go for, MS,
Netscape, Websense Proxy et al.

Many thanks

Mike
