There are many options for what you want depending on how you want to
impliment it.

You can check out LDAP for starters.

Your main concern would be how to integrate between the access database to
what the user is allowed to do.

There is also the eDirectory options from Novell. Strange as it sounds, many
large comapnies are now using that to organise their user databases and
quite happy with it.

This will aslo run under Linux and Solaris as well as NT regular and NT
2000.

I know this sounds like a plug, and it is, but it's also a very viable
solution.
