if a packet needs to travel accross a device to get to an interface, then
all that you should have to do is get the packet to the device.

whats the default route of the internal host your pinging from? does that
route directly or indirectly end with the firewall as the default gateway?
sounds like your internal hosts default gateway (the firewall or a core
router in routing sequence) does not know how to get to your new nt firewall
(or more specifically, through it to get to its' external interface).
