D,
I would check your DNS resolution/hosts file. Make sure
these are working properly. What do your logs say? Do
you have drops/rejects from the systems that take a long
time to resolve names/IP's? Can you sniff the
connection - what does that say?
As for performance - once you have
the kinks worked out, it will be a lot better than your
getting now.
