Try changing the in.ahttpd line of fwauthd.conf to read:
80 in.ahttpd wait -2

This makes firewall-1 run two http security server processes on port 80
which can help relieve a bottleneck that a single process can only process
so many connections per second. The documentation recommends only doing
this on a multiprocessor machine but I have found it improved performance on
our single processor box.
This tweak was recommended to me by Checkpoint technical support.

Regards,
Kerry.
