Title: secure remote client
We also have this problem from time to time.  I instruct the users to ping the firewall if they are not prompted for authentication when they try to access resources.

With laptops, I have also come across a problem with users having a NIC in their laptop that is on the same subnet/network as they are trying to contact and it actually tries to talk to the network via the dead ethernet line instead of the dialup line.  What one of the IS people does in my department is take out the NIC when booting.  Windows 2000 does not seem to suffer from this as it disables Ethernet when it's disconnected.

I don't know if this helps you out at all.  Hopefully it does. :)

And very strange enev if the user go through the firewall he can't connect to
any network ressoures
Of course these users are well defined on the firewall
