I hope Checkpoint is reading this one. If there isn't an educational
license (in both senses) then there should be. Not only would it be great
to put the technology into middle and high schools (where it is often
administered by up and coming young IT pros, who will soon be decision
makers) but having an inexpensive license for home/lab use would be a boon
as well. For someone like me, with lots of NT and Cisco experience trying
to break in to the security arena, it would be a great learning tool. Being
able to run Checkpoint on my approx. 5 host home network would leave me
better suited to run in in the corporate world, and more apt to recommend it
to the powers that be. No one ever questions ability of their staff to
admin something when they can say 'Ohh that? Yeah, I've run that at home
for quite some time!'

Subject: [FW1] Firewall-1 for Linux
Hi!
Does anyone know the ballpark price for a educational version of
Checkpoint Firewall-1 for Linux? I know of a k12 school with only a
handful of admin users that need a firewall. I can build a OpenBSD box
with IPFILTER or I can go with Checkpoint. I personally chose
Checkpoint.
Also, Is there a version of Checkpoint that we as engineers can use at
home to keep our skills up to par. I recently obtained my CCSE
cert...does this help with obtaining the software for personal use?
Regards and TIA,
Chris
