Danny,
I havn't used Extreme's products, but am a fan of both F5 and Foundry
for firewall load balancing. Personally, I've found the Foundry
ServerIrons are easier to configure, more robust, and generally cheaper
than, say, BigIP boxes. If you want to check them out, they're at

In my environment, we're using Foundry to do FW (and server) load
balancing, as well as transparent cache switching (where we use a
Foundry switch to re-direct any HTTP requests through a CacheFlow
transparent proxy - very cool stuff.) Anyway, just my take on the
issue.... Hope it helps.
