I would suggest that you not telnet directly to the firewall machine. I would suggest that you disable the
telnet service in /etc/inetd.conf. Use a secure shell daemon instead if you need to get a shell on this firewall.
Even then, that might be considered generous access on the firewall.

and then try and do some work, then telnet connection hangs up,
and then kicks me off, it is not the timeout bec i am working whilst this
happens, and then when i try and check the rule base it says can't connect
