In 3.0, when a management console is being overutilized, it might cause some
packets to not be logged. It sounds like this is exactly what's happening
in your case. The management console can't keep up with the number of log
entries being sent to it, so it drops some and enters that 'too many logs'
notation to indicate that some log entries are missing. 4.1 fixes this
issue. (not sure abotu 4.0, but I think it does too) In 4.1, log messages
are queued for entry when the management console can service them.
Upgrading would fix this, but so would finding the source of the problems
with your management console. I'd suggest doing both, in either order.
Upgrading and seeing the missing log entries might help you find what's
causing the burden.

Subject: [FW1] "too many logs" message?

Hello all,

I have a question that maybe someone can help me with. I have an
inspection module fw and associated mgmt module running 3.0 build 3072 (I
know, I know I have to upgrade--long story). Anyway, my inspection
module's fw.log file continually increases in size which I don't believe
should happen. Also, when I look at the log on the mgmt module, about
every 10 minutes I get a control entry from the inspection module with the
info "too may logs, lost some". I have pared down the logging to bare
bones, but I still see this.

My support basically says upgrade, but unfortunately we have been having
performance issues on the inspection module and my management wants the
performance (we think it needs more memory) issues resolved before we
upgrade.

Does anyone know what the "too many logs" message means?

TIA,

Donna
