Perhaps a better way is to fix the Windows 95/98 bug which causes the adapters
to retain their DHCP assigned IP address, even when they disconnect.

You need the Winsock 2 update and the ReleaseLeaseOnShutdown registry hack:

For Windows 95 updates:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/default.asp

For the Registry hack:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q217/0/35.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0

You don't necessarily need the Fast Shutdown hack, just the release lease.

Hope this helps

Mike

Subject: [FW1] Command line DHCP release

Hi,

I read sometime ago that there was a way via command line to do a DHCP release
for win95/98.

We've tried winipcfg with the command lines switches, but it still goes into the
GUI.

Winipcfg works, but we don't want the GUI popping up.

This is for securemote users and their dialer needs to do the DHCP release.

Thanks,
Kevin
