Are you forgetting about the Nokia IPSO boxes?

There's little/no work to lock them down, and it's easier to control new OS
versions and new firewall software versions than on any other platform I
can
think of.

Personally an NT box with SP 6 and the latest FW1 release
is more stable then any other setup.

With sun you still have the patchlevel and still have to choose
hardware/software configurations.

With HP you have even a larger patch level and support headache.
Don't ever buy and run an HPUX box without the expensive support
services.

Throw NT on certified hardware, follow the instructions to lock
it down and it will run forever. Don't use a mom and pop PC,
dont use cheap nic cards, don't use the "Typical PC". You dont
go cheap on your Sparc or HP9000 hardware, so don't do it to your
PC.

People constant say you have to "strip down" and remove unecessary
services for NT, but my god, did these people forget what Solaris
and HP boot up with by default. YIKES :)

So do what makes your business happy. But don't be a biggot about
anything! Use the solution that fits your staff, your budget and
your needs. Don't use anything because its a buzzword or trend. The
last thing you want is to be going over your head in new territory
when it comes to network security. Windows NT 4.0 with Checkpoint
firewall 4 is SIMPLE yet ELEGANT and GETS THE JOB DONE!

Unfortunately they are adamant on using a NT box as they have no Unix
knowledge at all (and don't want to learn).
