If it wasn't specialized hardware, then why is the Linux version of CP not
as fast? I know the BSD networking code is faster, but not that much faster
than Linux net code. I have no experience with a nokia box, so I'm speaking
with no concrete knowledge. Sorry about that :)

Oh another note... the Cisco and nokia boxes also use a lot of specialized
hardware which eliminate the need for size on disk or memory.
