Thanks. I should have mentioned that I'd already had a look around
phoneboy.com
The document you refer to is an excellent examples of what to do when it
doesn't work, I'm just after some info on what to expect if it doesn't.
The clarification that the logging will be held locally (as I had
thought), is welcome. The fact that they will log locally also suggests
that the policy stays put too.
Thanks

Subject: Re: [FW1] Adding new modules to management station - risks with
Putkey?
Hi
You should issue fw putkey on the managment station for every new firewall
module and on each FW for the mgmt. station. If anything goes wrong, the
FW-modules will start logging locally until they can re-synchronize with
the
mgmt.-station. At www.phoneboy.com/fw1 is an excellent document titled
"can't get fw-putkeys to work". I highly recommend you print it out,
because
it has helped me through numerous fw putkey troubles in environments with
more than one firewall.
Cheers
Ralf G.
