The configuration of the object as exportable is irrelevant to the VPN.  Have you
added the object to your VPN's encryption domain group object?  That is the only
issue I have seen (provided the client MUST pass through the FW/VPN to get to the
server.)

If you look under policy, properties, desktop security, you should see a value for
modifying the desktop invalidation timeout.
