If by 're-injecting' the .conf files you mean you had backed up your SP1
.conf files and copied them back over after upgrading to SP5, then that is
your problem. Adding a service pack alters some of the conf files. Your
SP5 firewall is probably looking for the syntax that a SP5 .conf file should
have, but if you have SP1 .conf files there, it will choke on it. When
upgrading, all that needs to be done is to add the patch, the patch takes
care of all your files for you. You only backup the conf files just in case
something goes wrong and you need to backout.
You might try removing the patch 'patchrm <patch#>' and re-adding the patch.
Assuming the patchrm doesn't fail, you might be all right. This time, don't
copy over SP1 files after you've upgraded to SP5.
