The unlimited license isn't $10k, it's almost $20k. Limited versions start
around $3k. Still, it's cheaper than the cost of lost business because
you couldn't find anyone proficient enough to maintain what you had
someone build for you (and they've left the company).

Seriously though, if you're anywhere near a major city, there is a group
there that knows the product and is with clue. So, even if you can't
manage to hire someone, you could bring in a consultant to handle those
needs.
