Another great document is Securing and Optimizing Linux: RedHat Edition which is available from www.linuxdoc.org/guides.html. It's extremely detailed which is nice, but it's in the neighborhood of 450 pages or so. However, if you're looking for the specific minimum packages to install though, they're listed in here.
Lance covers a lot of the same info (the basics and then some) in 4-5 pages (!!!). Depends on which you need, a quick easy way to get the box up and running fairly securely and quickly, or step by step instructions on tweaking the box even more thoroughly.
BTW, Lance has the same for Solaris, NT, and a lot more. I've found his whitepapers invaluable. Thanks Lance!
