Hello all,

I was just looking for opinions on the use of authentication from vendors
accessing the internal network. I, myself, am a strong believer that any
vendor who accesses our internal network must use authentication whether it
is from the net or from a dedicated line. My feeling is that even with a
private line we really don't know how tight the security is at the vendor
location and who might have access to what.

I am starting to get some flack here from upper level because the
'inconvenience' of authentication may affect the needed support of the
vendor. So far, I have been winning the battle but I sense the wind is
changing in the other direction.

I don't believe I can be too paranoid, but I wanted others opinions, if the
vendor has a private, dedicated line, still coming through the firewall,
what is your opinion on whether authentication is still needed?

Thanks for you time,
Donna
