Thanks for everyones help! After messing around with the syntax, seemingly a 
few thousand times, I finally got it:

sendmail -s ALERT!!! -t xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This has finally worked.  Between having an NT mgmt server and a Nokia FW 
module, I got a little confused on the exact syntax.
