There is no PEAR in Zend_Json. By default Zend_Json will try to use json_encode/json_decode functions. These functions are not part of PECL as of PHP5, they're part of the standard PHP distribution. Nevertheless, you could ask Zend_Json to use its *own* encoder/decoder.

    Don't assume ;-)
    Just take a look at the source code of the Zend_Json class and you'll
    see what it's using and when.
