Question came up elsewhere and via:
http://www.creativyst.com/Doc/Articles/HT/Dell/DellNumb.htm

we found Dell uses base 36 for its Service tags. You need the decimal for
the automated phone access so somebody came up w/:
map {$s+=(/\d/?$_:(ord()-55))*(36**$i++)} reverse(split(//,uc shift));
$s =~ s/(...)/$1-/g; print "$s\n";

as a rough stab. But I thought I'd ask the first team for a
cooler/shorter result, if anybody's interested.

Thanks.
