Though I haven't tried the Firewire2Go, I've read several reports of people successfully using OS X and the card with a variety of peripherals. In fact, it was one of the first to be supported under X last year; seems that it had "native" support under X without the need for third-party drivers, IIRC. And support for more peripherals seems to just get better with each X update: e.g. users say the iPod now works very well under 10.1.3 (no longer need to use a sort of Firewire Disk Mode to start it).
