Unless you want to go with OS X only, and don't need Classic, yes, you need to upgrade to 9.2.2. With your OS X CD will come a full 9.2 CD. Just upgrade your 8.6 installation. BTW, if you haven't thought about that already, I would suggest you think about possibly making partitions out of your drive. At least one partition for OS X and one separate partition for OS 9. It's much easier to wipe the entire partition when you need to re-install the OS, for any reason that might force you to do so.
