I sold my iMac on eBay and bought Pismo 500. I got it so I could use one computer for both my at home desktop needs and on the road to do GPS and general portable stuff. At home it's connected to a 19 in. monitor, an external keyboard and mouse, and through a 4 port USB hub to a printer, a scanner, a pda cradle, and sometimes a camera. The iMac used to do the same stuff. I left it on all the time and put it to sleep when I wasn't sitting in front of it. I want to do the same with the Pismo. Now, the Pismo is setup to run with the case closed. Should I continue to do this or not? I've noticed that the bottom of the case gets hot when it's awake and doing stuff. It cools down some when it's asleep. I have it raised up from the desk surface sitting on two 1x1x10 in. pieces of wood, to allow air circulation under it. I'm thinking of building a small fan box for it to sit on. Or the idea just hit me to build a padded stand so the Pismo could stand on end with the cd-dvd drive pointing up. This would allow natural air flow around it. Is this necessary? There must be other people using them for regular desktop use, what are your thoughts/experience?
BTW, so far I really like the Pismo 500. It takes up a lot less space than my iMac or previous tower macs. It feels generally as fast as the iMac 600 I had. Some things feel faster and some other things feel slower. I haven't done any tests and I don't plan to. It's like gas mileage. If it's good, so what? And if it's bad, I don't want to know about it.
