Compare that indicator to the one in the control
strip.  In my experience the one in the control strip
updates fairly quickly, while the menu bar one is slow
to recognize the change.  If your control strip
updates quickly, just don't worry about it.  Must be a
difference in the way the two indicators get their
information (i.e. software issue).

The amber doesn't glow on my wife's iBook's charger
any more, either.  If it's still charging, don't fret
it.  These aren't as robust as the old chargers, but
they do have neater lights on them...  I've noticed
that you can get the plug to glow green just by
touching it sometimes.  May be a threshold trickle
current there that the amber's not picking up on very
well after some usage.
