G-Book Listers
I've got a Pismo 500 that came with a 12 gig hard drive. I swapped
out the 12 gig for a 40 gig drive and put the 12 gig into an
external USB enclosure that I bought online for a fairly low price.
It worked transferring all my stuff to the new drive, but very slowly.
I had to use it to backup and reinstall all my stuff when I recently
did a partitioning of the 40 gig drive to get ready to install OS X.
Again very slow.
Next time it won't be so slow. I bought a new FireWire enclosure for
the old drive on eBay from this guy:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2056413320
$29 for the enclosure and $10 for shipping - seemed like a good deal
to me. Got the box in the mail today. Took 5 minutes to put the 12
gig drive in the box, plug into a FW port on my Pismo, no software to
load, and it popped right up on my desktop in OS X. I test
transferred a large folder full of stuff to the internal hard drive
and it seemed only a little slower than from one partition to another
on the internal drive and amazingly faster than the USB transfer. If
you are in need of an external 2.5 inch hard drive box, try this one.
I think the guy on ebay has a handful of ads for these. I don't know
him/her and I have no connection the business. Just passing on what
I think is a good deal.
