I reseated the usb card (as well as the firewire card next to it). I'm sure it's in there right. I tried the printer and cable with my laptop. They work fine there, but when I connect to the usb card, it's a no-go. I connected a usb floppy drive to see if the disk would appear on the desktop--interestingly enough, the floppy doesn't even seem to get power from the port. The light doesn't come on, and of course no disk on the desktop. I'm thinking the card is bad. Kate
