My WS 266 died an untimely death (non-disk related) so I bought a 400Mhz from
eBay (2 firewire/2 USB--is this a Pismo?)replacing its 10Gb Toshiba HD (OS 9)
with my 10gb Fujitzu (OS 9.1),expecting to hit the ground running (I'm very
familiar with the insides of PBs).

What I get on the attempt to boot is the grey screen with an icon of a file
folder (NOT the old original mac 128 icon) with two images that alternate
inside it--the question mark and the OS 8/9 icon of overlapping smiley faces
(switching every second).

Booting on the CD and running Disk First Aid doesn't reveal my HD as an option
to scan

Drive Setup reveals my HD as unmounted on Bus 2
(and unmountable) but initializable. A techie friend walked me through trying
to mount it with Disk Copy wherein the "mount volume" was greyed out.

I could understand this machine not liking my HD's OS and figured I could
re-install the OS, but why won't it even mount the HD?

I've been out of business for 5 days now and getting desparate, I'm even
willling to pay someone for a quick answer. Since I'm on the list in digest
mode, please CC me directly so I don't have to wait for the digest to arrive.
or phone
707-889-5548.

Thanks,

JWT
