I have a Dayna localtalk-ethernet adapter. I use it with a similar 
configuration. The trick with mine is that the adapter has to be on 
before the printer, and the printer has to be on before you look for it 
from the computer.

I leave the adapter on all the time and just turn the printer on when I 
need it.
