George: This is just a shot in the dark, no pun intended. I understand your stress. Try two things. First, try resetting the Power Manager (Apple's directions are as follows:
1. If the computer is on, turn it off. 2. Press the reset button on the rear of the computer. The reset button is located between the external video and modem (RJ-11) ports. 3. Wait 5 seconds. 4. Press the Power button to restart the PowerBook computer. I personally like to unplug the A/C and pull the battery, too, which is what the iBook requires. Second: If resetting the Power Manager does not fix it, try zapping the PRAM (shut the machine off and restart, holding down the Command-Option-P-R keys).
