Hi Laurent,

the adaptor itself is fine - its when you goto plug adaptor into computer the
inside (of computer) where u plug into is just dangling inside the computer
which is why the PB wont charge the battery.

but battery and power adaptor plug/brick are fine just the end of the plug
that goes into computer back of computer to charge when u plug it in u can
tell that the plug is cracked

I had it replaced on my Pismo because the connector is on the same board
than the audio out port, and this one was faulty, so my local service shop
did replace the whole board. I don't know how much it is since it was
covered by AppleCare.

However, you mention that the adaptor stopped charging, but is it still
powering the laptop? What happens if you remove the battery? If your
PowerBook is still running, then I doubt it's the connector. It could be a
faulty battery or the power manager has gone south. That happened to me with
my previous PowerBook, a Wallstreet. At some point, it stopped charging
batteries, or it would charge them for a little while and, all of a sudden,
the battery would appear fully charged, except that when running on battery,
I was getting a warning that I would have to plug it with the adaptor as the
PowerBook was going to sleep to preserve battery life. After sending it to
PowerBook Parts, they found out that the power manager board was faulty. I
think the repair was something around $50 plus shipping. You might want to
check them at <http://www.pbparts.com/>.
