Hello all this will be my first post here, and I've been having problems with my Lombard's CD-ROM Expansion Bay:
My PowerBook's 24x CD-ROM expansion bay module when running under Mac OS X, is limited to a collection of previously burned CDs, i.e. The CD-ROM drive appears to not be able to read CDs that were previously able to be read flawlessly under older versions.. 10.1, 10.0 and Mac OS 9. Maybe lost support somewhere? The CDs tested are working properly, when used in an external drive - in my case Yamaha SCSI 8424S CDRW, the disks mount properly and doesn't exhibit the problems like it did when used in the expansion bay. When running Mac OS 9 (9.2.2) all disks are properly mounted, this is booted under Mac OS 9 not under the classic environment. All disks were burned using Toast Titanium in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, all were HFS+/HFS type hybrid. The same occurs when a disk is burned using Nero on Windows 2000 with ISO9660 disk type is selected. Of course mounting in windows the CDs work as well. Note: Prior to Mac OS 10.2, the expansion bay cd-rom module worked flawlessly as well as it did in Mac OS 9. But now feature and performance wise in terms of Mac OS X 10.2 it is very poor, but it is still commendable in Mac OS 9. The finder complains in that it cannot find any mountable disks, and results in an option of ignoring or ejecting the offending disk. At times when a disk does load, the performance is extremely sluggish - the disk would spin-up and spin down indefinitely which usually results in a spinning cursor, which would require either a log out or reboot, the latter being the more successful. The CDs that are most successful at mounting are the Commercially printed ones, I don't think its the CDRs that I buy since under Mac OS 9 they all load fine using the Expansion bay, its just Mac OS X - its being finicky. I was wondering if anyone has had this happened to their G3 PowerBooks? and probably give me some help in fixing the problem apart from reinstalling OS X all over again. - ica. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
