Yeah, but did you live in the GWN? I grew up in Michigan and it is a common
expression up north, where you actually do see deer crossing the Freeways
(excuse me -- Expressways).

When I first got to California, people here laughed at what they called my
"backwoods Michigan" expressions, like starting a story with "when I was
knee-high to a grasshopper..."
