Having just read over the Service Manual entry for the TiBook (GE)'s 
DVD-ROM, it looks like the optical drive in the TiBook is a very 
fragile creature. I would only attempt this surgery if you both a) have 
experience inside the TiBook (my experience ends at tearing down a 
13.3" Wallstreet) and b) have the illustrated tear-down guide so you 
know exactly what to do in what order.

I personally hope I never have to take my baby (a TiBook 667 DVI) apart.
