V92 is a hardware feature and, on most modems, isn't a software or 
firmware update. Some modems that were made as v.90 just a little 
before the v.92 standard was finalized have the required hardware and 
are, thus, firmware upgradeable.

That said... I know -VERY- few people with pleasant experiences 
regarding v.92's supposed benefits, and I haven't gotten it to work on 
any of my Macs, nor on my lone PC.
