I presume you've tried holding down the 'c' key when
you startup the
Lombard
with a CD in the CD-ROM? It'd be very strange indeed
if it didn't allow
you
to boot from CD.

Also try holding down Shift;Option;Command;Delete at
startup. This
forces
the computer to look for a bootable volume other than
the internal
startup
drive (including a CD-ROM). This often works when a
Mac refuses to boot
from
CD even when holding down the "C" key.

Thanks for the suggestions. Like I said, No keyboard
keys seem to help. Even SAFE BOOT (Shift key at
chimes) won't get me past the Apple. It scares me to
try to run a CD Startup with the hard drive
disconnected and replug while hot with everthing open,
but what else is left?
