Sorry about the length of the following, but I'm not sure what shouldn't
be left out :)

For quite a while - I'm not sure how long, but certainly before updating
10.2.4 -> 10.2.6 - this pismo (500mhz, 640MB) has been suffering from
increased sluggishness the longer it stays up. The most extreme symptom
is from Keyboard Maestro, which after a few days' uptime takes around 10
seconds to bring an app to the front. The brightness and volume F-keys also
start to respond slowly as well; I hit, say, F4 three times in quick
succession
and there's no response for a few seconds. Virtual Desktop also slows down,
with the windows from the new desktop overlapping with those from the
previous one. These seem to get worse at about the same rate as KM.

One odd thing about the KM problem is that it doesn't seem to happen with the
bundled macros, only with those I've defined myself. These are very
simple ones of the "activate a specific application" type.

Now, I do tend to have a lot of apps running at once, including the X11
server, but I don't think I'm seeing all the classic signs of RAM
shortage: if I run vm_stat, I don't see lots of pageouts (although when
KM is invoked, I _do_ see lots of vm_faults - around 12-15,000.
Unfortunately I have no idea what they are..). I also haven't noticed
much disk thrashing, and the Spinning Beachball of Death(tm) rarely appears.

Most of the time, there's 30-60MB of free RAM, which afaik is pretty
normal for OS X usage (or is it?). That being the case, swapfiles are
another mystery. Before logging out and back just now, there were 6
swapfiles, the most recent created 4 days ago. Now there are still 3,
even though there's 382MB free RAM. (A restart does get rid of all
except one.)

Disk space on the startup volume is reasonable I think - it was down to
about 700MB recently, but I did some housekeeping, thinking free disk
space might be
a factor, and it's now around 1.3GB. I think that has improved things, though
I don't really understand why; there were always a few hundred MB free,
so the system wasn't running out of swapfile space.

Any hints appreciated, including how to go about troubleshooting in a
more systematic fashion! At the moment I'm just noodling about with
various apps while watching vm_stat and Memory Usage Getter do their
things.. No startlingly obvious memory leaks to be seen!
