iBook DVD error message

I am the new owner of a used iBook Graphite SE Firewire. When I try 
to play a DVD, I get an error message which begins "Apple DVD player 
does not support the video card..." and then goes on to say something 
about reducing my monitor's resolution. This last bit is followed by 
the number 307.

Although I spent the last hours searching through Apple Support for 
help, I couldn't seem to find anything.

Does anyone on this list have any ideas?
