I had the same problem, only I owned the Palm lll and purchased a new Ibook.
I liked the Palm lll and did not want to get another pda at this time. You
will need a USB to serial adapter and the serial cable (either the small
travel one, or the dock station). I tried a low cost adapter from Sewell
corp (sewell.com), but they are primarily for PCs, and after 5 days of
trying, I could not get the Palm to hot synch. I found the Keyspan hi-speed
adapter online for $35 (search Keyspan High speed serial usb adapter at
Froogle.com), purchased from Wholesalers-Direct.com. This worked flawlessly
the first time in both 9.2.2 and 10.2.6. Keyspan also makes a usb PDA
adapter, I think the only difference is the transfer speed, the PDA is
slower and may also be cheaper.

As far as I know the Ibook does not have IR ports, so unless you get an
external adapter for this, you will have to go with the usb/serial adapter.

Hope this helps.

Wayne
