I have just bought a second hand G3 and when I asked for the system CD the guy could only give me a copy of Mac OS 9 as hed lost the original (or whatever)...
My problem is that when I try to boot from the CD (9.2) it gets as far as displaying the desktop background and then it stops as it cannot create a desktop database (or that's what I recall it said). As it's a second hand machine with lots of junk on it I want to reformat the drive and reinstall, not just do a clean install and junk the old System folder.
How do I recreate a bootable CD from this one ? I have Toast 5 which from what I can see is different from version 4 in that there used to be a check box for bootable and that was it...
Any advice ?
Laurence
