I have just bought a second hand G3 and when I asked
for the system CD the guy could only give me a copy of
Mac OS 9 as hed lost the original (or whatever)...

My problem is that when I try to boot from the CD (9.2)
it gets as far as displaying the desktop background and
then it stops as it cannot create a desktop database (or
that's what I recall it said). As it's a second hand machine
with lots of junk on it I want to reformat the drive and
reinstall, not just do a clean install and junk the old
System folder.

How do I recreate a bootable CD from this one ? I have
Toast 5 which from what I can see is different from
version 4 in that there used to be a check box for
bootable and that was it...

Any advice ?
